Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center
The Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center has a lot of exhibits and dome visual mini theater that convey the charm of the Tottori Sand Dunes. Besides, to provide the tourist information, the guides who know the Tottori Sand Dunes well always stationed at this facility.
The zone that conveys the origins and the formative beauty of the Tottori Sand Dunes along with topography and sand patterns, the dome visual mini theater that conveys the charm of sand dunes and allows you to experience the Tottori Sand Dunes, the zone that introduces plants and insects that live in the harsh environment of sand dunes, and the zone where you can learn about the relationship between the sand dunes and the people and their activities. By visiting these zones, you can deepen your interest and understanding of the Tottori Sand Dunes and increase your expectations for time to walk in and explore the Tottori Sand Dunes.
Floor Guide
Information counter
We provide seasonal information on Tottori Sand Dunes and information on surrounding facilities. A writing pad/communication board is also available. Please feel free to visit the information counter if you have any questions or concerns.
Indoor resting area
Located nearest the entrance, a resting space with high ceilings and soft lighting has a warmth that will welcome you. The 4 meters-long “volcanic ash layer peeling” specimen that makes use of the wellhole is worth seeing. You can feel the history of the earth.
Experience room・Lecture room
For those who want to learn more about the Tottori Sand Dunes, the Experience room / Lecture room is available with explanations from the guides. Those rooms are equipped with equipment such as projectors and wind tunnel devices to generate wind ripples and providing a place for learning with a large number of people. Please enquire in advance.

SUNAKURA
The dome visual mini theater “SUNAKURA” is surrounded by the wall with wind patterns of Tottori Sand Dunes. It shows a lively and immersive video of the momentarily changing the dunes through the changes of the four seasons taken by drones. You would meet the Tottori Sand Dunes you have never seen before. The screen starts automatically every 20 minutes. (every 00 min, 20 min, 40 min) There are some gimmicks can be enjoyed even when there is no screening.

“Touch” Wind Ripples
The wind ripples on the entire wall of SUNAKURA are shaped by what formed in the Tottori Sand Dunes. Sand pillars and sand curtains are also processed from the dunes. Here you can see, touch and be observed wind patterns any time.
Get a closer look at the sand through the microscope
This is a very popular corner for children to adults. Get a closer look at not only the Tottori Sand Dunes but also the sand around the world.
Handmade exhibits
Handmade exhibits easy to understand the formation and the difference of the sands. Display and the exhibits change according to the season.
Geo Zone
An exhibition zone about the history of the Tottori Sand Dunes, formation, topography, and sand patterns. Handmade exhibition corner by the guides where you can learn about the unique terrain and the differences in the sands are very popular.
Creatures Zone
Introductions of plants and insects that live in the dunes. The specimen displays are the main exhibition. There are exhibits of the plants that can only be seen in each season, as well as root structures and burrows that they are not usually seen.
Life Zone
An exhibition zone on the relationship between people and dunes such as agriculture, development and protection, natural monuments, literature and weeding activities. There is a touch-panel digital picture-story show introducing the history of the Tottori Sand Dunes until the modern dunes become a tourist destination.
Tottori Sand Dunes Quiz Panel
Visit the study corner if you want to know and learn more about the Tottori Sand Dunes after visiting the exhibits. There are books related to the Tottori Sand Dunes and “Quiz How well do you know the Tottori Sand Dunes?” acquires knowledge about Tottori Sand Dunes.
Kids area
The study corner has a kids area where children can play barefoot.

Library
There are books on Tottori Sand Dunes, National Parks and Geoparks. There are also picture books that are easy to read for children.

Services
Nursing room
A nursing room is on the first floor. A diaper changing table and seats are also available. Please feel free to use it and visit the center with small children.
Wheelchairs +
Wheelchairs for Sand Dunes
Wheelchairs for visiting the center and wheelchairs for exploring the dunes are available for visitors. If you would like to use it, please come to the information counter at Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center.

Foot Shower
There are foot showers and kid’s showers in the outdoor resting area. When you come back from the dunes, you can wash off the sand here. There are towel vending machines in the immediate vicinity.

Maps/Brochures
Just right in front of the entrance of the Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center, you can pick up free maps and brochures around the Tottori Sand Dunes and nearby sightseeing spots.
Parking
There is no private parking at Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center.
Please use “Tottori Sand Dunes Parking” (in front of Tottori Sand Dunes Visitor Center).
